Blue-hued cocktails, Happy Hours and dance parties, it’s instant paradise at these beach bars in Curaçao!
Curaçao has at least 38 named beaches, so it’s no surprise that many of them have beach bars to keep sunbathers well fed and hydrated.
What may come as a bit of an eye-opener, however, is how lively a beach party scene this Dutch Caribbean island has developed.
I’ve spent more than 20 years travelling and writing about the Caribbean for magazines, publications and guidebooks such as ‘100 Things to Do in the Caribbean Before You Die.’
And Curaçao offers plenty of bucket list Caribbean moments. There’s a rotating list of hotspots that spark up on any given night, with DJs, Happy Hours and live bands getting the action started.
A kaleidoscope of aquamarine cocktails — from the classic Blue Lagoon to the Azul Margarita — crafted with the island’s signature Curaçao liqueur are just the beginning.
Here are some of my favorite Curaçao beach bars well worth putting your toes in the sand at for awhile:
Located on popular Jan Thiel Beach, Zanzibar is combination bar and restaurant with live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The latter includes Happy Hour (5-6 pm) plus beach tennis, cabanas for rent, and a shoreline dock that’s perfect for watching sunsets.
Check drink specials and events schedule at Zanzibar.
🌟 Pro Tip: Amstel Bright or Brasa beer are the go-to beers in Curaçao and usually what you’ll find in beer buckets during Happy Hour.
2. Madero Ocean Club
The spirit of Brazilian carnival sparks up at this Curaçao beach club’s caipirinha bar, where the resort-like amenities include an oceanfront swimming pool surrounded by lounge chairs and breezy cabanas.
A day pass to Madero Ocean Club gets you access to the pool, beach, live entertainment, restaurant and beach bar, known for its international wine selection.
There’s even a private VIP deck that can host 10 of your pals if you’re planning a girls getaway or a milestone celebration.
Check hours and specials at Madero Ocean Club.
🌟 Insider Tip: If you don’t find the menu to your liking at the beach bar, follow the locals to the food trucks for post-club dining: they’re everywhere.
3. Cabana Beach Club
Beach bar meets sports bar at this hot spot on Seaquarium Beach, where the entertainment lineup ranges from DJs to stand-up comedians and movie nights to international sports broadcasts.
Rent a Cabana beach bed ($15 USD) set beneath the swaying palm trees and spend the day hopping in and out of turquoise waters.
Pamper yourself with the VIP package and score extra perks such as towels, fruit plate and water. Prices increase at holiday periods.
Check hours, beach bed rentals and specials at Cabana Beach Club.
🌟 Insider Tip: The Wednesday night dance party is especially popular.
4. Bonita Beach Club
Especially popular with the cruise ship crowd, this beach club on Mambo Beach Boulevard (Google Map) features a family-friendly atmosphere and wide selection of beach food from poke bowls to fish tacos.
It all pairs well with the fruity cocktails served at a discount during two weekly Happy Hours: Fridays and Sundays.
Thatch-roofed bars and hanging chairs give this place a relaxed, South Seas vibe.
Check hours and specials at Bonita Beach Club.
🌟 Insider Tip: Don’t miss the Ballenbak Snack Combo of bitterballen (deep-fried balls of stew) and cheeseballs served with dipping sauces. It’s perfect for sharing.
Curaçao Cocktail Class
Made with the bitter peel of the Laraha orange, a fruit that grows only on the island, Curaçao is a dazzling citrus-flavored liqueur that adds tropical zest to cocktails.
Tour the historic Curaçao Liqueur Distillery, sample the famous blue drink and then take a cocktail class.
5. Chill Beach Bar
A riot of driftwood signs directs beach lovers to this bar at the Lion’s Dive Resort, Curacao’s top scuba diving resort.
A full-service restaurant and bar, Chill is known for its seafood and meat skewers, swaying hammocks, and feet-in-the-sand dining and drinking.
Check hours and specials at Chill Beach Bar. Happy Hours are on Fridays and Sundays.
6. Blend Beach Bar
With Happy Hours every day of the week and live music on Friday nights, Blend Beach Bar is the place to be on Blue Beach.
Located northwest of Willemstad (Google Map), and part of the Blue Bay Golf and Beach Resort, the bar serves both drinks and snacks as well as fresh-made pizzas just steps from a serene stretch of sand.
Daily Entrance to the private beach costs $12 USD ($6 for kids).
Check hours and specials at Blend Beach Bar.
🌟 Insider Tip: For a romantic day for two, opt for the Spoil Package. $200 USD (for two) you’ll get a Bali Bed, towels, water bottle, lunch, fruit, cocktail, bottle of wine and snacks. Book 48 hours in advance (+5999) 888-8800 x 321.
This beach is one of the best bets if you’re looking for a Caribbean beach without sargassum seaweed.
7. Wet & Wild Beach Club
Attracting locals and visitors alike, Wet & Wild (Google Map) on Seaquarium Beach is a colorful beach club that really heats up on weekend nights, particularly the Friday night dance party.
The menu at this Curaçao hot spot reflects the diverse crowd, with Dutch treats like bitterballen (also a popular food in Aruba) mixed in with the usual burgers and sandwiches.
Check hours and specials at Wet & Wild Beach Club .
🌟 Insider Tip: This is one of the beach bars in Curaçao for cocktail lovers. Wet & Wild Sundays features a mojito bar.
8. Hemingway Beach Bar and Restaurant
We’re not quite sure what this place has to do with Ernest Hemingway — the author spent a lot of time in the Caribbean, but never in Curaçao.
But who’s to argue with a beach bar that offers both covered and open-air seating by the sea, serves three meals daily, and has live music on the weekend, including a Latin salsa/merengue band on Saturday nights?
When the bell tolls for a good time, head to this beach bar at the Lion’s Dive resort.
For specials and hours check out Hemingway Beach Bar.
9. Koraal Rooftop Terrace
Does a beach bar actually have to be on the beach?
This one has everything but the sand, including elevated views of the ocean in every direction from atop the Karakter restaurant’s roof at Coral Estate (Google Map).
In addition to a palapa bar, Koraal has hammocks, lounge chairs, umbrellas and a swimming pool for guests to use, plus live music, and a Friday night barbecue.
For more info on hours and specials check out Koraal Rooftop Terrace.
10. Avila Beach Hotel – Schooner Bar
Located in Willemstad’s Pietermaai District at the Avila Beach Hotel Curaçao, the Schooner Bar is oldest operating bar in Curaçao.
This atmospheric hangout remains a popular destination for drinks and dining by the sea.
Set on a sandy spit surrounded by water on three sides, the boat-shaped bar is an especially popular gathering spot at sunset.
It’s also a good place to chill out after a walking tour of the historic Punda District, one of the best free things to do in Curaçao.
Don’t miss its daily Happy Hour (5 to 6 pm) and live music tradition dubbed Avila’s Beach Vibes starting at 6 pm.
Check out Schooner Bar & Terrace for more info on hours and specials.
🌟 Insider Tip: Dance to live music and enjoy BBQ bites on the last Sunday of the month.
11. Rilèks Beach Bar
The newest beach bar on Mambo Beach has a relaxed upscale vibe with beach drinks service, a swing set on the sand, a DJ dance party on Fridays, shots menu and Happy Hours all weekend.
Check out the Rileks Beach Bar on Instagram for drinks specials and events such as Margarita Fridays.
12. Papagayo Beach Club
The infinity pool at the Papagayo Resort on Jan Thiel Beach is a popular nightlife destination, particularly on “Finally Friday” nights when DJs spin dance music.
The onsite restaurant serves three meals daily and offers local Kushina Krioyo (Creole) dinners on Wednesdays.
For more information, hours, and specials check out Papagayo Beach Club.
13. Kokomo Beach
Live bands combined with Happy Hour specials make this beach bar the place to be on Sundays.
But what really sets Kokomo Beach apart are its monthly Full Moon parties on the beach.
It’s an Ibiza-like experience complete with DJs spinning music into the wee hours.
For more information check out Kokomo Beach Restaurant’s Facebook Page.
14. Mood Beach Club
‘Bohemian’ is the buzzword at this Seaquarium Beach club, which rents out cushy beach seating in a variety of configurations.
Relax on your choice of loungers to beach beds and dreamy cabanas while enjoying everything from frikandel sausages to caviar alongside upscale cocktails.
For hours and drink specials check out Mood Beach Bar.
15. Piscadera Beach
Visitors who make their way to this beach west of Willemstad (Google Map) get to choose from a trio of beachfront dine and drink establishments.
Begin with Pirate Bay for a mix of Dutch and international cuisine with tables right on the sand, plus there’s Tomatoes for thin-crust pizza, and Que Tapa for Spanish style small bites.
The first two offer a daily Happy Hour (plus two hours of drink specials on Friday nights).
For more information check out Piscardera Beach.
16. Tugboat Beach Bar
If your ideal Curaçao beach bar is less about pounding bass and hand-stirred cocktails than a laid-back location and a semi-deserted stretch of sand, take the drive out into the Curaçao backcountry to Tugboat Beach.
This beach is named for a shipwreck offshore, so there’s ample opportunity to dive or snorkel right from shore.
The waters are so calm and clear, snorkeling the Tugboat wreck is one of the best things to do in Curacao.
But even if you’re not a diver, the beach bar made from a collection of driftwood and recycled materials is a great place to spend a few hours snacking on grilled hot dogs and sipping cold beers.
For most recent hours and specials check out Tugboat Beach.
