Body + soul: massage therapy in Puerto Escondido, Mexico

People often ask if I worry about getting sick in Mexico. The truth is I come to Mexico to get healthy. With lots of fresh fruit and sunshine, long walks on the beach, yoga and massage, Puerto Escondido is a do-it-yourself wellness retreat at a fraction of what it would cost in  Toronto. This past winter, I  had a good fortune of meeting Beata Jesionowski, a massage therapist from Poland (via British Columbia Canada) who now calls Puerto Escondido home.  Those-in-the-know swear by her healing (and some say magical) hands. Now, massage therapy is part of my get-healthy plan.

Even the products she slathers on is organic (avocado, coconut and grape seed massage oil infused with natural lavender essence). The coconut oil comes from Oaxaca and the lavender oil  is supplied by SAJE Natural Wellness  based in Canada.

Wow – you look seriously healthy. I could use a massage. My back is killing me from lugging way too many bags around Europe. Oh, poor me. Poor poor me! Ha. Have fun, Michele.

Over 40 years ago my parents used to go to a place near Cuernavaca called Villa Vegetariana where they believed in food combining. All sorts of people, including Americans were there to heal. This post brought back memories.

You do, indeed, look happy and healthy. I can’t tell you how much I could use Beata’s massage therapy right now. I’d also like to soak up some vitamin D on the beach, too.

How can you go wrong, massage, beach, sunshine and fresh healthy food. No wonder you have a happy glow. I loved the food in Oaxaca and the beaches of the Caribbean. Dang how did I miss a massage. But I always got sick when I got back to the States.
